Join Dr.Rebecca Hall at The Sanctuary for a conversation about an Afrofuturist understanding of temporality, ancestral connection and retrieving subjugated knowledge of the truth of our resistance can create a spiritual link to one’s history. August 23rd, at 6pm.
What can you rely on as the world stops making sense? During the writing of Wake, I didn’t go looking for a spiritual tradition; One came for me. Visions of enslaved women who had freed themselves came to me in my dreams. I learned how to ask my ancestors to speak to me in a way I could understand, and in doing so, found modes of resistance. Afrofuturism asks us to imagine futures of Black liberation. To do so, we must understand the historiography that has brought us to our present moment, and shed limiting ideas around our construction of time. We must look back, to find the path towards our future.
